MySkinStory: Simple!

Hello and welcome to MySkinStory!  I’m so excited to be going on this journey and I can’t wait to share with you my results. I’ll link all of the products I feature in the post that I can find for you!

I’m going to jump straight into this post with a product that I have been absolutely loving this past week and I feel that it has really helped me to improve the overall appearance of my skin. That is the Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub. I’m my last post I mentioned another face wash that I use in the shower but this one seems to be the next step up. It has micro-beads in it which really helps to exfoliate the skin around my nose which is a problem area for me. I have quite visibly large pores especially in my T-zone area which do tend to get clogged up with dirt and other stuff causing lots of blackheads but this scrub has been a huge help. Although it has not completely solved the problem it’s certainly reduced the amount of icky stuff in my face and cleaned up my skin loads. I don’t think I’ve been using this product long enough yet to give a full view on it but I use it mostly everyday in the morning to wake up my skin. My skin feels so much softer and it smells great too!

As I just mentioned, large pores are a problem for me but I only just realized this was what it was a few months ago. I just assumed my nose was unclean or I had spots but it was actually my pores I was looking at. This is why it is important to use a toner after cleansing as it closes them up and shrinks the appearance of pores. I have been using the Simple Soothing Facial Toner. It’s so kind to your skin and although I need to be more strict with myself in using on a daily basis in order to get the full results it does seem to be helping a little.

Another important step in your cleansing routine is moisturising. I again went with Simple and used their Hydrating Light Moisturiser so it does two things in one, cleans your skin and leaves behind a nice moisture to finish with. I can have quite oily skin at times but this one doesn’t break that oiliness out which is something I would look for in a moisturiser.

I’m still getting started with my routine so please feel free to recommend a few products to try out in the comments! My skin already feels in much better condition even after just a couple of weeks taking better care of it. If you really want good skin it is in your hands. As much as skin cleans itself it definitely needs a helping hand. I have a lot less redness now which was one of my main concerns so I’m really happy with my results so far!

MySkinStory: The Basics

Hello and welcome to MySkinStory!  I’m so excited to be going on this journey and I can’t wait to share with you my results. I’ll link all of the products I feature in the post that I can find for you!

If you have no idea what MySkinStory is about please click on the link above to read a little bit about what I’m going to be doing with this section of my blog. ♥

Since I’m pretty new to the whole “skincare routine” business I thought I’d start out with the basics and had a rummage through my existing skincare products. Which, by the way, had been pushed so far to the back of my extremely full make-up drawer and were beginning to gather dust. (Shows how much I use them!)

In the pile of stuff I managed to pick out a few products that would work well in getting me into an easy to do, easy to remember routine. There’s no way I’m going to be able to jump straight into an hour long facial cleansing routine in a matter of days. So, by getting used to doing something small every morning or evening I can then build up to something a bit more substantial.

The first thing I found that should be in every person’s skincare routine is facial wipes. I’ve used Simple Facial Wipes for a long time now as I’ve found other brands seemed to irritate my skin and make it quite red and blotchy afterwards but that’s just my sensitive skin. Although you can find some much cheaper wipes, these ones feel really nice on the skin and start you off with a good, clean base to work the rest of your routine on to. I’ll generally use these to just remove my day’s make-up on an evening or wake my skin up in the morning. Although they do leave traces of make-up or dirt on the skin, they aren’t too drying and do remove most of the easy things you want to get off your face. I’ll then reach for something more hard wearing after to get rid of the rest.

Another thing I’ve been loving this week is the Simple Triple Action Face Wash. I tend to use this when I get a shower and it claims to have results “from day 1” which I have in fact seen! My face feels a lot smoother and cleaner in general. It also smells really great too! (You don’t have to use it in the shower but I just find it easier that way)

One major problem I seem to come across with my skin are breakouts or spots. I used the T-Zone Spot Zapping Gel a while ago and have just re-discovered it this week. I used to swear by this spot gel and I’m so glad I’ve started using it again. People have mixed opinions on whether or not you should squeeze spots and I am generally against it. However, I find that as long as the face is properly cleansed before and after then the risk of infection is definitely lower. After squeezing a spot (gross, I know) I’ll pop a little dab of the gel directly onto the spot and the next morning it will have completely disappeared.

I also found it on Amazon for a bit cheaper.

Another product I swear by is Vaseline. Although it’s not exactly skincare I definitely deserves a mention in my basic skincare post. It keeps my lips moist and fresh all day long and is so handy to just slip into your handbag and apply when needed.

I’ve not put a link because you can find Vaseline in pretty much any beauty shop.

I hope this has been a good start to this new series and I’ve already found some new products that I’m excited to use on my skin so look out for those soon! For this first post I’ve stuck to the basics but included the things I will be using on a day-to-day basis.
